Principal’s Message

Updated August 2021

Dear Helen Gorman families,

My name is Rob Aviani, and I am proud to be principal of Helen Gorman Elementary School. This school community is amazing. We have wonderful students, a dedicated staff, and very supportive families. I am very appreciative to be able to serve as principal of this school.

We welcome all our new and returning students and families. It will be so exciting to see everyone's faces again and make some new friends. We are so glad that you all are joining us for a great year of connection and learning.

This year, students and families will notice some new faces among our staff. Our team is tremendous. We thank all staff for their tremendous efforts in providing a connected, caring, and safe learning environment for all students.

As we emerge from the pandemic, we are hopeful about the upcoming school year. I have heard from students, staff, and parents that everyone is looking forward to coming together as a community again. Although things might look a little different, we are optimistic that we will have assemblies as well as sporting and community events in 2021-22. We also are excited to be revitalizing a dedicated music program for all our students. In addition, there will be more opportunities for experiential, hands-on learning through technology as students will be introduced to innovative coding and design thinking principles. Finally, we look forward to continuing our commitment to recognize and celebrate the cultures and contributions of the Indigenous Peoples of Canada.

We welcome back our wonderful Parent Advisory Council (PAC) to the new school year. The PAC's work is instrumental in making a wide variety of learning opportunities available to our students. For example, the PAC has helped fund field trips, cultural activities, and the construction of the Outdoor Learning Center. We encourage all parents to learn more about the PAC by visiting the PAC section of our school's website.

Our school updates families through our weekly email newsletter. We encourage families to stay informed. If you would ever like to connect with me, please do not hesitate to reach out by email or phone.

All the best,

Rob Aviani
